Does a previous visit to Egypt block me from getting a tourist visa to China with the same passport?

I am an Austrian national and I visited Egypt last year for tourism. I have the Egyptian tourist visa in my passport. I wanted to visit China in two months and planned to ask for a tourist visa. I have to apply from Taiwan, as this is my current country of residence. In the application form, my wife found a sentence that it is not possible to apply for China tourist visa if you visited Egypt. Does anyone have any experience with this - is there a way around or can I really never visit China using the same passport?

As far as I know, it's hard to apply for China visa in Taiwan, maybe that can explain why the requirements are more strict. Maybe you can go to HK to apply and I don't see there is a sentence in normal application form that states the visit to Egypt will make one ineligible for China visa, though in fact it may have some influence.

Thank you for your answer.
In the meantime, I found a colleague who had the same problem and learned this: the "black-list" including Egypt really only applies for visa applications from Taiwan (yet, strangely, not to Taiwanese...). It seems that the visa is not 100% sure to be denied if you have visited one on the list, but since you have to apply through a travel agent (no Chinese embassy), and they charge for it, they just say it's impossible to avoid troubles down the road.
Solutions are: 1) go to HK and apply in person 2) apply by mail through your home country 3) risk it and apply from Taiwan. My colleague did 2) and I will do the same.
