About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

I hold a British passport and a British citizen.

I am returning home from Sydney in March 2020 I fly to Beijing and hope to visit Xion spending up to 6nights in total in China do I need a visa,if so can i apply for it before I leave in December,also what type of visa would I need.

Yes, you will need a visa because you will visit Beijing and Xi'an consecutively and when you do that, you are no longer eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. Never mind because you have enough time to apply and obtain a Chinese tourist (L) visa before you depart for Australia. Please, have in mind that your best option is to ask for a 2 year multiple entry Chinese visa because UK citizens are eligible for such a visa when they apply while in UK. You will tell at the time of your application that you plan to travel more often to China in the near future and that is the reason why do you ask for this 2 year multiple entry Chinese tourist (L) visa.
