About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72 Hour Visa - Hong Kong to Beijing

Hi Planning on travelling from Hong-kong to Beijing on bullet train and return Beijing to Hong-Kong. Can we do the 1 day Beijing day tour on day 2 on the the 72 hour Visa with these travel arrangements? We are from the UK. Many thanks

Well, here we have two problems:

1) You are not allowed to use a bullet train within a visa free transit scheme, but only a conventional, overnight one.

2) You are not allowed to travel:

Hong Kong - Beijing - Hong Kong

As you can see, this is round trip and not a transit. To be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit you have to be a bit creative and you can use the following itinerary:

Hong Kong - Beijing - Macau

You can use a conventional through train or a plane to travel from Hong Kong to Beijing, but you have to return by nonstop flight from Beijing to Macau. After you have reached Macau, you can immediately return to Hong Kong.

I apologies, now I have seen that you meant to travel from Beijing to Bangkok :)

This is perfectly fine and eligible. You should just change from a bullet to a conventional train or to a plane and you will be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Beijing area.

72 hour visa free transit in Beijing has been replaced by 144 hour visa free transit a couple of years ago. Also, it is not a visa, but a visa free transit, so use correct terminology to avoid any possible misunderstandings.

Apologies once again, this intention of travel from Beijing to Bangkok was posted by Safee in the upper post and I though that it was your post. So, everything written in my first answer to your query is valid.
