About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Transit visa for Hong Kong ? 24 hrs or 144 hrs visa free transit?

I have a flight from Vancouver, Canada to Beijing, China through Hong Kong (3 hours layover in Hong Kong. I would like to enjoy the visa free transit during my 23 hours staying in Beijing before leaving to my destination, which is Dubai.

Do I need a transit visa for my flight from Vancouver to Beijing through Hong Kong?
For what kind of visa free transit do I qualify in Beijing? 24 hrs or 144 hrs?

Thanks for your kind and helpful reply, but I just found out that my entire transit time within mainland China will be approximately 30 hours and I carry a Canadian passport.
Do I qualify for the 72 hours or 144 hours visa free transit?

Vancouver - Hong Kong - Beijing - Almaty - Dubai
( Vancouver to Beijing 1st itinerary & Beijing to Dubai 2nd itinerary)

Sana, you are definitely qualified for 24 hour visa free transit because your entire transit time within mainland China will be less than 24 hours. In other words, you will travel absolutely visa free.

You will print out your flight tickets and have the printouts with you. Also, you will declare in Hong Kong that you will fly to Dubai via Beijing using 24 hour visa free transit.

Upon your arrival in Beijing, you will approach 24 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit. You will present your tickets and also an accommodation booking confirmation in hard copy. After a short inspection, you will be allowed to leave the airport and to spend your time in the city and in your accommodation.

I assume that you will fly on a separate tickets on your flights from Hong Kong to Beijing and from Beijing to Dubai, aren't you? This is just fine and perfectly acceptable.

You are definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Beijing, but be warned that you are not allowed to travel to Dubai via Hong Kong. Your flight from Beijing to Dubai has to be a nonstop. In other words, this itinerary is eligible for 144 hour visa free transit:

Vancouver - Hong Kong - Beijing - Dubai

Anyway, this one is not:

Vancouver - Hong Kong - Beijing - Hong Kong - Dubai

Yes, your itinerary is definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. Please, just have in mind that your flight from Beijing to Almaty has to be nonstop!

Also, separate tickets (itineraries) are fine. Just print them out and have the printouts with you.
