About:Shanghai 15-day Visa-free Policy for Cruise Tour Groups

Totally confused about visa requirements!!

My wife and I, along with some friends are joining a Holland America cruise ship in Hong Kong, March 2020. We sail to Shanghai arriving 17th leaving 18th for Quingdao on 20th then onto Beijing 22nd and 23rd moving then to Dalian on 24th. We then leave for Japan. We are all UK passport holders.
If we book a tour with Travel China in Shangai can we therefore use the visa exemption and will this allow us to go ashore in the other ports?

Your itinerary is definitely eligible for Shanghai 15-day Visa-free Policy for Cruise Tour Groups. Your itinerary is an excellent example. If I'm not wrong, your tours is 14-Day China Explorer that ends in Japan, in the port of Yokohama.

You are eligible because your cruise perfectly fulfills the requirements:

The Shanghai 15-day visa-free policy enables cruise tour groups from all over the world to visit Shanghai and other Chinese coastal provinces for up to 15 days. Tourist groups should enter Shanghai by cruise ship and exit from China by the same cruise ship.

As you can see by yourself, you are entering mainland China through Shanghai and also exit from mainland China by the same cruise ship.

All you have to do now or more realistically, a bit later because your cruise is in March, is to make a contact with one of several agencies listed under the link titled: Tour Operators in Shanghai. Of course, you can make a contact with China Travel Guide too and after you have received a confirmation, you will be released from any obligation to obtain any kind of visa. Of course, you have to see the prices of their offers and after a possible negotiation, you will make your decision.
