About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

I wish to fly to Guangzhou from Laos.

The flight is via Kunming where I have a 4hr lay over before heading to Gz. It's the same airline China southern so I would just transfer in the airport. I want to get a transit visa in gz so is this mini lay over allowed?

Coming back I will go gz to Bangkok.

You don't need a visa of any kind if you are in China for less than 24 hours (from scheduled arrival in Kunming to scheduled departure from Guangzhou). Any longer than 24 hours requires a visa in advance of travel.
