About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

A note: Apparently the regulations have changed

If you land at Shenzhen International Airport, you cannot travel onwards to Hong Kong or Macau. I don't know the reasoning for this, but when I attempted to board a plane from Taipei to Shenzhen, they said I would need a ticket to a third country (which was neither Taiwan, Hong Kong or Macau) to be allowed to board. However, if you land at one of the other two airports, travelling to Hong Kong or Macau is fine.

24 hours transit without visa has never been allowed at Shenzhen for transits to Hong Kong or Macao.

Apparently they do not allow it for 144 hour Visa Transits either, even though the air carrier websites and the local police allow it on their websites.

There are passengers on literally daily basis who successfully use Shenzhen airport and 144 hour visa free transit to reach Hong Kong and Macau. In reality, there is no such a thing in Timatic that would prevent anybody from doing that. I you have encountered an official that claims that this is not possible, let him show you this detail in Timatic. He/she has obviously just translated the rule that really applies for 24 hour TWOV to 144 hour TWOV. In reality, 144 hour TWOV in Shenzhen allows you to travel to Hong Kong and Macau, undoubtedly.
