About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

NL > HK > Nanjing and back Nanjing > HK > NL

Am I allowed with a Dutch passport to travel from the Netherlands to HongKong and than to Nanjiing, stay for max 72 hours in Nanjing and fly back to HongKong and there after to NL without a visa?

No, your itinerary is not eligible for 144 hour visa free transit and in reality for any visa free transit scheme.

As you can see, your itinerary is a return flight or a visit to China because of this segment:

Hong Kong - Nanjing - Hong Kong

There is no third country and since there is no third country, this is not a transit.

You are advised to obtain a Chinese visa in advance or to slightly change your itinerary:

NL - HK - Nanjing - Macau - Hong Kong - NL

Like this, your itinerary would be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai area and your effort will be to take a ferry or a bus from Macau to Hong Kong.
