About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

accommodation in the 144 visa free transit

My girlfriend will be travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing and then back to Bangkok next week. The flights are direct and booked, so everything should be in order here. However, i'm more curious about accommodation. As I live in Beijing (and thus have an address) I would like to know if she still needs a hotel reservation or can she just stay at my place? I'm aware that she needs to consult the local PSB within 24 hours of arrival, if this is possible.

Hi again. Thank you for the comprehensive answer! Just a last question (which might be stupid) - does it make any difference if I only hold a temporary residence permit? I still live here, have an address etc.

Indeed, everything is just fine with her itinerary and she is also allowed to stay with you at your apartment. You are supposed to give her your exact address and also she will probably have to give your phone number for a possible contact. She will just insert your identity in the blue form along with your address in Beijing and that will be enough for immigration authorities to grant her a temporary entry permit for 144 hours. Of course, as you already know, you will have to both appear at PSB for her registration. In other words, she does not need a hotel reservation at all.

This is fine as long as you make a registration for her within the 24 hours.
