About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

MultiCity flight

My flight goes from ny to pek but first stops in shanghai for 1hr:45minutes then flight from pek to India. Can I use the 72 hour permit for Beijing ?

Two stops in China (Shanghai, Beijing) automatically limits you to 24 hours visa-free transit in China. Any longer than that requires a visa.

If I keep a 24 hour time frame can I till go out of airport at Beijing and visit Great Wall?

Yes, you can. Anyway, you should be aware that the entire transit time is calculated from your first scheduled landing, in your case in Shanghai, until you last scheduled departure out of country.
