About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I use any of the visa free options in Shanghai, and if so which? And how about Macau?

Being a Danish citizen, I believe I am eligible for at least one of the 24-, 72-, or even 144-hour visa free transit in Shanghai (I will only need around two times 5 hours) on my inbound and outbound travel from Macao. My itinerary is given below. Can you confirm my assumption?

I will attend a conference in Macau and being a Danish citizen I believe I am exempted from a visa with a free entry of up to 30 or 90 days. Can you confirm this as well?

CPH, Denmark -> AMS Amsterdam, Netherlands
AMS Amsterdam, Netherlands -> PVG Shanghai Pudong International Airport China (arrival 10:50)
Transfer by car to Shanghai Hongqiao Apt China SHA
Shanghai Hongqiao Apt China SHA -> MFM Macau International Airport (departure 3:55)
Attending a conference in Macau (staying 4 nights Tuesday-Saturday)
MFM Macau International Airport -> PVG Shanghai Pudong International Airport China (arrival 6:55 pm)
PVG Shanghai Pudong International Airport China -> CDG Paris Charles De Gaulle Apt France (departure 12:05 am)

Given both your layovers are under 24 hours you are only eligible for 24-hour transit. You don't need a visa for Macau either as an EU citizen.

Mathias, if those are your only stops, then you are perfectly eligible for 24 hour visa free transit in Shanghai twice. The reason why you are eligible for 24 hour visa free transit only is in the fact that your entire transit time, on both of your travel legs, will be noticeably less than 24 hours.

Anyway, this is definitely not a problem. You should print out your flight tickets and have them in printed form with you. You will declare in Amsterdam, at check-in that you will travel to Macau via Shanghai using 24 hour visa free transit. Your tickets will be shortly inspected and you will be allowed to board the plane for Shanghai.

Upon your arrival in Shanghai you will approach 24 hour visa free transit counter where you will get a temporary entry permit. After that, you will transfer to Hongqiao airport and will continue your journey to Macau. Practically the same thing is valid for your journey back from Macau via Shanghai to Europe.

To conclude, you are eligible for visa free transit in Shanghai and you don't need any kind of visa.
