About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flight transfer at Chengdu airport

Hi, I am an Australian and I am flying from Sydney to Kathmandu via Chengdu Airport with Air China and i have been told that i have to collect my luggage and re check it in at Chengdu Airport. I have only got 3 hour transit. So do i need to apply for a visa at the airport or is there like a separate immigration section at the airport that deals with transit without visa. Last time i was at Guangzhou, i had a 15 hour transit and i had to apply for a 24 hour visa. Do i have to do the same here?

Thanks
Matt

Thank you for replying. I just checked my passport and it was infact; a 24 hour visa free transit permit. Again really appreciated. It's good to go prepared as i have a short transit time.

Yes, in case that you have to collect your luggage and to recheck for your onward flight, you will have to apply for a temporary entry permit in the same way as you have done it in Guangzhou. Simply speaking, there is no other way because you will have to leave the transit area. It will be very short, but obviously necessary move that you will have to accomplish.

One more detail... During your layover in Guangzhou you were traveling on 24 hour visa free transit and not on 24 hour visa and you have also applied for temporary entry permit and not for 24 hour visa. Please, you should use correct terminology to avoid any possible misunderstandings.

By the way, it is possible that there is a separate immigration section for travelers on their visa free transit journeys, but I cannot confirm that at the time being.
