About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I am a little confused about the 24 hour visa free rules. are we eligible?

Hi,

I am a little confused about the 24 hour visa free rules. My friend and I fly from LAX on October 25th and land in Shanghai at 5:10pm. We have a 4 hour layover here before flying to Kumning and do not plan to leave the airport. We land in Kumning at 12:35am and have a 14 hour layover before flying to Nepal at 3:15pm on the 27th. Are we allowed to leave the airport and explore Kumning?

On the way back from Nepal to LAX, we fly from Nepal on the November 15th and land back in Kumning at 9:25pm on the 15th. We have a layover but do not plan on leaving the airport. We then fly from Kumning at 9:15am on the 16th and land in Shanghai at 1:45pm on the 16th as well. We have a 23 hour layover in Shanghai and fly back to LAX at 1:20pm on the 17th of November. Are we allowed to explore Shanghai visa free?

I don't think we would qualify for the 72 hour visa since we have two stops in China.

Please help!

Your first leg is definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit because your entire time spent in China is less than 24 hours.

Quite contrary, you will need a visa for your second leg because it is longer than 24 hours and since you have to consecutive stops in different Chinese transit zones (Kunming and Shanghai), you need a visa obtained in advance.

Having in mind that your departure will be on October 25th, I suggest you to obtain 10 year multiple entry Chinese visa and travel with absolute peace of mind. You have enough time to obtain a visa and the best favor what you can do to yourself is to apply as soon as possible.
