About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flight from London UK to Shanghai ...3 night stay then join cruise to Russia

Please can you help? My flight arrives in Shanghai at 15:35 on April 29 2020. I have a hotel in Shanghai until May 2nd when my cruise leaves for Russia at 16:30. I sail back to Shanghai arriving 07:00 on May 10 and my Flight leaves Shanghai to the UK at 23:35. Do I need to apply for a full visa or will the short stay visa be sufficient. Many thanks for any help.

Sue, you don't need a visa at all because your itinerary is eligible for visa free transit in Shanghai twice. Anyway, to be completely certain, here are a couple of conditions:

- Your flight from UK to Shanghai is not allowed to have any additional landing within mainland China
- Your cruise to Russia is not allowed to have its first port of call, immediately after Shanghai, in any mainland China port
- Your cruise is not allowed to have its last port of call, immediately before Shanghai, in any mainland China port
- Your flight from Shanghai to UK is not allowed to have any additional landing within mainland China

I assume that you are fine with the above conditions and if that is a case, you are eligible for 144 hour visa free transit during your first stop in Shanghai and for 24 hour visa free transit during your second stop in Shanghai.

Please, be informed that 72 hour visa free transit in Shanghai has been replaced by 144 hour visa free transit a couple of years ago.
