About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu

Transit KIX and Tokyo stopover

Hi, I will be flying from Osaka (kix) to Shanghai and plan to stay for five days, then fly home to SFO with a stop for two hrs in Tokyo. I read that the flight home must be non-stop to a third country but not sure if they would count Tokyo as my third stop or San Francisco?

You need a visa to fly Japan-Shanghai-Japan. The rest of your itinerary is of no interest to Chinese immigration.

Every take-off and landing counts, and often this works in favor of the passenger who wants to travel visa-free.
