About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I exit Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport and visit Hong Kong?

Hello,

I am traveling from London (Swedish passport) to Hanoi, Vietnam with a flight connection at Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport. The layover is 25 hours (arriving 13:15 local time and leaving 14:00 next day). I was hoping to be able to exit the airport and see Shenzhen and Hong Kong during this time. Will this be possible without a visa?

Technically yes, but it can be a bit tricky: there is no problem with one-way travel to HK, but coming back to Shenzhen you cannot be traveling on a visa waiver again and need to pay about £34 for a visa on arrival at one of the land or sea border crossings during specific hours (which means bullet train is out of the question).
