I am currently on a work visa in China. The visa is due to be cancelled.

I am currently on a work visa in China. The visa is due to be cancelled due to end of employment, can I apply for a tourist visa without leaving China so that I can travel in China

Yes, when you cancel your residence permit at the local exit and entry administration, you can apply for a tourist visa of 30 days of stay duration.
