15 hour layover in China

Hi. I’m travelling to/from Bangkok from London in December and both flights have a layover in China of around 15 hours. Do I need a visa for the layover? If I wanted to leave the airport I’m assuming that I would? Thank you :)

Gemma, you don't need to apply for a visa. If you want to leave the airport, you can provide a hard copy of accommodation outside the airport in order to get a temporary stay permit at the airport counter.
