Ethiopian citizens need a Chinese tourist (L) visa to travel to Hainan at the time being. Unfortunately they are not yet eligible for Hainan 30 day visa free access.
To obtain a Chinese L visa, you should visit the visa section of Chinese embassy in Addis Ababa where you will find a link: Visa: Guidelines for Visa Application. There it is explained in the best way a procedure for obtaining a visa. You can do it and I suggest you not to limit yourself just to Hainan because you can visit this Chinese island within your wider trip to that country. Also, you should look after a more affordable ticket and you will find one by looking at larger Chinese cities and not on Hainan airports. You can easily reach Hainan with exactly that visa after you land in let's say Guangzhou.0
