About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

US -> Guangzhou-> Shenzhen-> HK and back

We are planning a 11 days trip: flying from US->Guangzhou and stay for 4 days and take the train to Shenzhen for the day then to Hong Kong for 4 days. We will take the train back from Hong Kong to Shenzhen for the day and then to Guangzhou for 3 days and flying back US. Would it qualify for 144 hours visa free transit?

144 hours visa free transit in Guangdong requires arrival by air only (see "What are the eligible transit ports" on this page). You must have a visa for your second entry. Even for your first entry, you must have your confirmed onward ticket to Hong Kong in your hand when you check in for your flight to China. It will be far better to get a multiple entry visa. Your other alternative is to travel between Guangzhou and Hong Kong by air and not by rail.
