About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Chengdu

HK-Chengdu-HK: is this route OK for the 144-hr visa waiver?

Hi, I called the Shuangliu International Airport but their customer service hotline just cut me off so hope you could help. This article mentioned Country A-Chengdu-Third Country C is a feasible route under this visa-free policy, but I plan to leave from and return to the same country (i.e. HK); in other words, could I still enjoy the visa waiver if I travel this way (A-Chengdu-A)? I hold an Irish passport. Thank you.

You answered your own question. You are returning to your origin so you obviously need a visa. Why on earth would you waste everyone's time by calling an airport about that?

Pam, you should consider something a bit more creative, like:

Hong Kong - Chengdu - Macau

From Macau you can easily return to Hong Kong and this itinerary is eligible for 144 hour visa free transit.
