About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Different Airlines Itinerary

Hi,
We are flying to USA from Korea, with an 8 hours stop in Beijing. We are 4 passengers, holding Costa Rican passports. In addition, we have 2 different bookings with 2 different airlines: China Southern (GMP-PEK) and Air China (PEK-LAX). My question is, would this be an issue to become eligible for the 24 hours visa free transit? and must we be required to check in with Air China in Korea, before departing to PEK? Then should we inform China Southern, in Korea, that we will be requesting the 24hr TWOV upon our arrival to Beijing?
Thank you!

First of all, your itinerary is definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit in Beijing and you don't need any kind of visa.

Also, it is perfectly allowed to have separate tickets and to use different airlines.

You will declare at check-in in South Korea that you will travel to Los Angeles via Beijing using 24 hour visa free transit. You will also present your tickets that you will print out before your travel. After short inspection, you will be allowed to board the plane.

Upon arrival in Beijing, you will apply for temporary entry permit by filling out a form and by presenting your tickets. It will be granted to you because you will have to collect your luggage and perform new check-in. Basically, this is it. If you want, you will have also some spare time to take a train from the airport to the center of the city to make a short stroll, but you can also remain at the airport. As you wish :)
