About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Is it possible to do back-to-back 144 hour Visas?

The verbiage on this article states the flight out of China must be non-stop.

Ideal itinerary would be USA --> Hong Kong --> Shanghai --> USA , however flights back get routed thru HKG on Cathay.

So a work around (in my head) is: USA --> Guangzhou --> Hong Kong. And then Hong Kong --> Shanghai --> USA.

Additionally, I understand Guangzhou only accepts flights in, but would the train to Hong Kong qualify out?

Thanks for any advice on this matter!

The Cathay Pacific itinerary obviously requires a visa. You can go from Guangzhou to Hong Kong by "slow" train, but not by high speed rail. But you must have your confirmed onward rail ticket in your hand when you check-in in the USA.
