About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Can I backtrack to Singapore on this visa if it is part of my journey home?

Can I use this visa if I take a side trip to Chengdu on my home to the UK from Malaysia via Singapore? By this I mean, Malaysia to Singapore, then Singapore (transit) to Chengdu (see Pandas), before flying back 48 hrs later to Singapore (transit) then onto London. Can I do that on this visa?

No, you cannot do that because the stop of every kind counts regardless of its nature. So, your itinerary is in the eyes of the Chinese immigration authorities nothing else than a return journey:

Singapore - Chengdu - Singapore

For such an itinerary, you need a Chinese tourist (L) visa obtained in advance.

I can see that you have mentioned Malaysia. You have an opportunity to depart from Malaysia to Chengdu and after that to fly from Chengdu to Singapore:

Kuala Lumpur - Chengdu - Singapore

This itinerary would be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Chengdu. At least, there is a couple of low cost airlines from Kuala Lumpur to Chengdu and having a separate tickets and using different airlines is perfectly fine. Think about it.

By the way, this is not a visa, but 144 hour visa free transit.
