Visa to attend an international conference

I am Zimbabwean in Johannesburg. I have a temporary South African visitors permit valid for 1 month. Can I go to your Johannesburg office to apply for a visa to attend a 5-day international conference in Beijing? I have the invitation letter and the visa letter from the conference organizers.

As it states that "Applicants other than South Africans must provide the original and photocopy of your permanent residence permit or other temporary residence permits valid for over 6 months beyond the date of your intended date of arriving in China", I worry that you cannot apply from South Africa. In it's urgent, please contact the embassy to see if they can help with this.
