About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flying from USA to Beijing then on to Thailand

Am I eligible for a 72 hour visitor visa if I am flying in on one airline and flying out on another airline. I am staying less than 72 hours and am going on to a third country. I am flying in and out of the same airport. I have all necessary tickets and an itinerary for Beijing. But I want to make sure this is allowed.

Yes, this is perfectly allowed. In reality, having a separate tickets was never a problem and this option was always allowed. All you need to do is to have your tickets in hard copy (e-ticket printouts). By the way, your itinerary is eligible for 144 hour visa free transit because 72 hour visa free transit was replaced in Beijing a couple of years ago by more generous 144 hour visa free transit. In other words, you are allowed to stay in Beijing area for up to 144 hours visa free.
