Arriving by Princess cruise in Shanghai, visiting Hualien and Kaoshiung. Do I need a Visa? US citize

Excuse me, but as I can see on the Princess Cruises, Shanghai is only mentioned as a departure point for cruises that later visit Hualien and Kaohsiung. Actually, it is mentioned only once as a departure and a terminating point, but only for Circle Asia cruise. Could you, please, just add a few details that could be useful like your arrival date by cruise in Shanghai and also where do you plan to go after Shanghai.
