About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Im flying from australia to shenyang

landing on the 23/09/19 business meeting, departing on the 24-09-19 for Australia do I need a visa or can I apply for the 72 hour

You need a visa as it's not a transit.
Plus I'm pretty sure there are no nonstop flights from Australia to Shenyang (the ones I know always have another stop in China).
