TRANSIT VISA - PLEASE HELP!

Hi I have a passport from Ireland. This Sunday we travel to Hong Kong and were meant to travel on to Guangzhou for 2 days but I don't have a tourist visa sorted and time is running out. If we were to travel from Hong Kong to Macau, and then get a train to Guangzhou could we get a 72 hour transit visa on arrival to Guangzhou as we would be travelling from Macau and exiting Guangzhou through a flight in Hong Kong. Any help would be really appreciated on this.

If your travel route is Ireland - Guangzhou - Hong Kong or Macau or Macau -Guangzhou - Hong Kong or Hong Kong - Guangzhou -Macau and your layover in Guangzhou is more than 24 hours, then you are eligible for the 144-hour visa free transit.
