Travel Taipei - Beijing - Hong Kong

For a travel schedule from Taipei to Beijing (2-night stay) to Hong Kong, does Hong Kong qualify as a '3rd country' for the purposes of the visa-free transit rules? Thank you for your assistance.

Hong Kong is not qualify as "a third country" but qualify as "a third region out of Mainland China", so your travel route is eligible for the 144-hour visa free transit.
