About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

9 hours layover

My flight is LAX - PEK - BOM round trip. On my return flight from BOM , I have 9 hours layover at Beijing. Would I qualify for visa free transit ? I do not have to claim my luggage , correct?

Both of your flights are definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa. Whether you will have to collect your luggage and perform new check-in depends entirely on the type of your ticket. If you are flying on a single (through) ticket, your luggage will be, practically for certain, checked all the way to Mumbai and the same for your flight back to Los Angeles. You will know this detail for certain at the time of your check-in in Los Angeles and in Mumbai for your flight back. In case if your are flying on separate tickets, you will have to collect your luggage and perform new check-in in Beijing using 24 hour free entry permit that will be granted to you to perform the necessary formalities.
