About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

How long is it necessary to stay in Hong Kong?

I am going to fly from Los Angeles to Xiamen, then from Xiamen to Hong Kong, and from Hong Kong to Los Angeles. 1. How long should I stay in Hong Kong to qualify for 144-hours visa-free stay in Xiamen? Other sites say that only the final destination (i.e., Los Angeles) counts. 2. Should I make reservations from Xiamen to HKG and from HKG to LAX separately to qualify? Thank you.

1. As long as your flight touches down in Hong Kong you will qualify. There's no requirement to clear immigration in Hong Kong, or even disembark the aircraft. It is NOT the final destination that counts, it is always the first destination after China. 2. It doesn't matter how your ticket is constructed. Separate tickets or a single ticket, either is just fine.

Just to add, your Los Angeles to Xiamen must be a non-stop flight, and must not touch down in either mainland China or Hong Kong.
