I am a Chinese student studying in NZ and I am bringing a friend of mine to China, for applying the visa, does he need his guardian or mine will be fine, are there any more instructions ?

Your firend could apply for a tourist L visa to China. Your family could be the inviter and give your friend an invitation letter. If your friend is under 18 years old, he will need the help of his guardian.
