About:Apply for China Visa in a Third Country

Student visa in a third country/territory

I am a Ukrainian citizen currently living and working in China. I have valid work visa and residence permit in China. I got accepted into a PhD program here and I need to re-enter the country on a student visa. I will have all the paperwork needed. I just don't want to fly all the way back to Ukraine to apply for a new visa. I can stay in Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, or Hong Kong visa free for 15-30 days. In the past I have only had student and work visas in my passport. Do you think it is possible for me to apply in any of these places? If yes, which one would you recommend?

You don't have to apply in a thrid country. You could take all your documments and go to the nearby Public Security Bureau (PSB) Exit and Entry Administration office to change your work visa into a student visa.
