You are eligible for 144 hour visa free transit if your itinerary fulfills the following conditions:
- Your flight from, I assume UK, to Beijing should not have any additional landing within mainland China.
- Your cruise should not have its first port of call, immediately after Tianjin, in mainland China. Fukuoka is fine as it is in Japan.
If the above conditions are fulfilled, you are definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Beijing area.
You should print out your flight and cruise tickets and have them in hard copy. Upon your check-in in UK you will declare that you will travel to Japan via China (Beijing) using 144 hour visa free transit. After a short inspection, you will be allowed to board the plane.
Upon your landing in Beijing, you will approach the 144 hour TWOV counter where you will fill out the blue form, you will present your tickets and you will get a sticker in your passport and be allowed to exit the airport.
That's it.
