How to obtain a tourist visa

We are visiting China as part of a cruise in March next year. I believe we will be staying in China for about 4 days. We plan to go up to Manchester to get our visas processed. Do we have to make an appointment or it mentions going online, then do we need to physically attend. Also is there just one basic form (4 pages) that we complete. Its confusing it mentions using the correct form. If we leave our application form at the CVASC do we need to leave our passports also. If it takes 3 days we could plan to stay in Manchester for that period and then pick them up?

You have to make an appointment in advance and you may need to come to the Visa Centre in person to submit your application and your fingerprints may be collected. The firm should be completed on the website CVASC and then printed out. You have to leave your passport at the center. You don't have to stay at Manchester for that. You could have the passports returned by post while lodging the application at the counter.
