Flight from Ulanbaatar to Beijing -- 2 days stop in Beijing -- flight from Beijing to Moscow

Hello,

we are 2 Slovak citizens traveling from Ulaanbaatar to Beijing (arrival to Beijing on 12 September 2019 in the evening) and then from Beiging to Moscow (departure from Beijing on 15 September 2019 at 5:50am). We have purchased both flight tickets independently and they are operated by different airlines.

1. Can we use visa free transit in Beijing? Is area of Great Chinese Wall still covered by visa free transit?
2. Where do we have to apply for visa free access? Still at the airport in Ulaanbaatar (before entering the China) or we can do so also at the airport in Beijing?
3. Can we rely on possibility to use visa free transit, or it is always more safe to ask for visa - even if Slovakia is a qualified country and we both fulfill 72 hours stay criterion.

Many thanks and best regards,

Rudolf

Yes, you are definitely eligible for 144 hours visa free transit in Beijing area. Here are the answers:

1. You can use 144 hour visa free transit in pretty large area that encompasses the cities of Beijing and Tianjin and also the entire province of Hebei. Roughly 5 times larger than Slovakia. You are definitely allowed to visit the Great Wall.
2. You don't need to do anything in advance. You will print out your e-tickets and have them in hard copy. Also, you will declare at the check-in in Ulaanbaatar that you will travel to Moscow via Beijing using 144 hour visa free transit. Please, have in mind that you will be required to show your Russian visa or your onward flight from Moscow if you don't have one. So, have even the flight from Moscow to EU in hard copy. When you arrive in Beijing, you will approach the 144 hour counter where you will fill out the blue form. You will hand it over to the immigration authorities along with your onward ticket for Moscow. After a short inspection, you will be allowed to leave the airport. It is highly advisable to have at least the first night in Beijing booked in advance and to have the confirmation in hard copy too. One of the questions in the form are the address and phone number of your accommodation.
3. You can definitely rely on using a visa free option with eligible itinerary. Your itinerary is definitely fine. By the way, it is 144 and not 72 hour visa free transit. 72 hour was replaced with 144 hour visa free transit a couple of years ago.
