Hohhot-Ulanbator Trick

Why is the stopover in Erlian so long for the Hohhot-Ulanbator service? It seems much longer than the equivalent for the Beijing-Ulanbator route.

Would it be possible (and cheaper?) to buy the a 4652 train ticket to Erlian, depart and take a bus or taxi over to Zamiin-Ud, then rejoin the train from there? In order to have some time to explore the cities.

Is there a daily Erlian-Ulanbator train, and if so, what is the schedule for this?

Is it cheapest to go Beijing-Hohhot-Erlin-taxi to ZamiinUd-Ulanbator on multiple seperate trains?

Thanks!

You can take a bus from erlian to Zamiin Uud, then take a train there to Ulaanbaatar. But I'm not sure if you can leave the Erlian train station if taking 4652. I think you cannot leave the train station as it's the railway port that you will go through on an international train. But you can take other domestic trains to Erlian, then take a international bus to Zamiin uud to explore the city, and the train ticket is much cheaper.

Erlian - Ulaanbaatar train departs at 21:59 on Monday and Friday, not daily.
