Work Visa Korean ID Card Question

I'm a UK citizen in Korea. I've just finished my job here and have been accepted to teach at a university in Guangzhou, China. My ARC is valid until September 25th, but the notice at the top of this page says that non-Koreans in Korea must have 6 months' validity left on their ARC to apply.

This seems confusing, as most people don't apply for jobs until later in their contract. Could you please clarify this for me? My UK passport has many years of validity left, but my ARC does not. I really need to apply for the visa here in Korea instead of flying back to the UK. Is this possible?

Just check the website of the China Visa Application Service Center in Korea. it is said as follows:

(3) Proof of legal status (applicable for those not applying for the visa in their country of citizenship)
If you are not applying for the visa in the country of your citizenship, you must provide the original and photocopy of your valid certificates of residence, employment or student status, or other valid certificates of legal stay provided by the relevant authorities of the country where the Visa Center is located.

so you could apply with the ARC in nearby visa center.

Hi James,

I'm facing a similar scenario - currently resigned from my existing job and will be applying for a Chinese work visa (Z or R type) pretty soon.

Did you face any constraints in getting your visa application accepted at the CVASC, and thereafter, in obtaining your visa?

Additionally I have two other questions:

1) In the visa application form, how many days' worth of itinerary do remember filling up, given that you're going to work in China for (presumably) a year (or more)?

2) Given that you already resigned before you applied for the Chinese work visa, did you mention 'unemployed' in your visa application form? Or did you mention something else and did you also give the name, contact, address of your former employers in Korea in the form?

I'd be grateful to hear back from you about this.

Hi Saarthak.

To answer your questions directly, for the number of days you can write 30 (in the case of a Z-visa), because that’s the initial length of stay before you apply for an extension. I’m not sure about the other kind of visa, but I guess you can just check the number of days it says on the form.

For the address and place of work, you can just write the previous information. That’s what Seoul Square told me to do. I’m applying for my visa tomorrow, but I’m not expecting any issues. I hope that helps. Good luck.

James, I'm in a somewhat similar boat as you - did you ever manage to get a Z visa to China? How long did the process take for you? Were there any difficulties? Cheers mate.

Hey Richard,

Really sorry for my late reply; I’ve only just seen this and it’s probably too late. But yes I got the visa and no, there were no issues at all. I hope it’s the same for you! Good luck!
