Book Return in a Smart way

Hi, super useful article, thanks for that.

I have a question. I only need a return flight to Shanghai - however I cannot fly directly from my location.
Can I book my return in a smart way so I would be eligible for the 144 hour visa.

E.G.
Bangalore - KL 01/11/2019
KL - Shanghai 01/11/2019
Shanghai - KL 05/11/2019
KL - Bangalore 05/11/2019

Or would my outbound flight be to another airport in order to make it look like a transit.

Your advice is much appreciated

*reason I do not have a Chinese embassy where I live so it will be quite a hassle to obtain one - so exploring the creative route option.

I can also fly out via a different country (Hong Kong) if that would change the scenario:

E.G.
Bangalore - KL 01/11/2019
KL - Shanghai 01/11/2019
Shanghai - Hong Kong 05/11/2019
Hong Kong - Bangalore 05/11/2019

Your first itinerary obviously doesn’t work because Malaysia-Shanghai-Malaysia doesn’t obey the Country A-One zone in China-Country B rule. The second itinerary works if you only stop one way in Hong Kong. You could also fly KUL-SIN-SHA-KUL for example. Your nationality must also be from one of the 53 listed countries; you didn’t mention yours but it won’t work on an Indian passport.

Thanks a lot! Yes I do have a Dutch passport so that makes me part of the 53 countries.
Ok so as long as Country A and Country C are different with Country B being 1 city in China (of the ones listed) this would work.
