detainment and penalty
I have a friend that was flying out of china to the US on a 6 month visitor's visa. I just got a call that they were being detained because they had a 2.5 kg gold bar in their possession. I was instructed that there was a penalty of $4,800 fine that needed to be paid in 48 hours or they will be taken to jail. Is this a legitimate situation?
