Can I get a visa from the Chinese embassy in Calgary without air ticket and hotel reservation

I am meeting my friends in Hong Kong first and we'll travel in China

K Wong, if you apply for tourist visa and you have no invitation letter from mainland China, then you need to submit the air tickets and hotel reservations. If you want to travel by road from HK to mainlnd, it's ok to submit the round trip air tickets to and from Hong Kong.
