About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Beijing, Tianjin & Hebei

Two Part Trip - 114 Hour Visa Eligibility

Hey there,

I booked a flight from NYC --> Beijing (with a stop in Ethiopia) that lands on a Wednesday, I also booked a flight (independently, and on a different airline than my first flight) that leaves Beijing to Tokyo two days later. I am a US citizen and do not plan on stopping in any Chinese city besides this two day layover. Given these are two different flights / booked on two different airlines, am I still eligible for a 72 / 144 hour visa free transit? Which one do I need to get? Would my first airline (final destination in Beijing) provide the paperwork at check-in or do I need to do anything ahead of time?

Thanks so much!

Thanks so much! So just to confirm, nothing needs to be done (besides print ticket to Japan) before I start my travels? Also, this is all free? Thats awesome!

John, you are definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Beijing. All you have to do is to have your flight tickets in hard copy and your valid passport. Of course, it is advisable to have your accommodation in Beijing already booked to be able to fill out even this detail on the form that you will use for your application upon your landing in Beijing.

You will also declare at check-in in Addis Ababa that you will fly to Japan via Beijing using 144 hour visa free transit. You will present your tickets and after that you will be allowed to board the plane. Upon your landing in Beijing, you will look for 144 hour counter where you will fill out the mentioned form and also present your ticket for Tokyo. After a short inspection, you will get a sticker in your passport and be allowed to exit the airport.

Basically, this is it.
