Travelling from Auckland to Delhi via Shanghai on Indian passport

Hi there,
I have an Indian passport and i am travelling from New Zealand to India via SH. the transit time is less than 19hrs but do i need transit visa? also, I was planning to explore the city instead of wasting my time at the Airport, please let me know I would need considering i'm leaving the Airport
