Two layovers within a short time

Hi
We are going from Helsinki to Taiwan via Shanghai. On our way there we plan to stay in Shanghai for three days. On our way back we must stay overnight in Shanghai. Can we exit the airport to stay at a hotel?

It didn't even cross my mind to question this, since our total time in Shanghai will not exceed 144 hours, but our travel agent was concerned that two stays within a week might not be allowed.

Is this plan OK?

Should be fine, no limit to how many times you can do the transit, you can turn around the same day if you wanted. For the overnight be sure to bring print out of confirmed hotel reservation or they may make you spend the night in the airport.
