About:Chinese Temporary Residence Permit

Residence permit that's valid but with no work visa

Hi, I was working in China from Nov last year, and the contract i had signed with my employer was for 2 years, so the residence permit expires in 2020 September..i however left in January (my father fell ill), the school was fair and let me go. They cancelled my work permit and gave me my recommendation and cancellation letters. But they didn't cancel my residence permit. It does not have the 'cancelled' red stamp over it, and i've been in SA since February. I am just wondering what my way forward here is, i'm starting my new job in 2 weeks in Shanghai, do i need a new visa? Will i be granted entrance with my current residence permit?

No, you can't enter. You need to apply for a new Work Visa.
