TRAVEL TO BEIJING AND SHANGHAI WITH NO VISA

Hi
I am planning to fly from Spain to Beijing - stay no later than the allowed 72 hours - fly to Hong Kong for 3/4 days and then fly from Hong Kong to Shanghai - stay no later than the allowed 144 hours - and then fly back home to Spain.
Can this be done? Am I allowed to travel to 2 different cities in China within this space of time but I'm not breaking the time allocated on the visa-free transit?
Any help greatly appreciated!

Hong Kong is treated as a third country for visa free transit purposes. Just make sure no other landings in mainland china other the ones you mention even if just for a transfer. No time limit on how long you must stay in Hong Kong before flying back to mainland china.

Transit 1: Spain > Beijing (up to 6 days) > Hong Kong
Transit 2: Hong Kong > Shanghai (up to 6 days) > Spain
