About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu

Layover in Shanghai before stop with visa

Hi,

I am looking at an itinerary going from Europe to South-East-Asia VIA Shanghai (i.e. a brief layover without leaving the airport) and would like to make a stop on the way back. I would assume I am, but would like to be sure, am I then still eligible for the 144hrs-visa?

Thank you in advance!
Nicolas

Yes, in case that your itineraries are something like this:

Europe - Shanghai - SE Asia
SE Asia - Shanghai - Europe

You are eligible for visa free transit in Shanghai twice. During your first arrival you will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit and during your second arrival you will enjoy 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai.

You should have in mind that within your itinerary you are not allowed to have a stop of any kind within mainland China! Of course, you can have an additional layover in mainland China on your incoming itinerary, but the entire transit time has to be accomplished within 24 hours. Your outgoing itinerary is not allowed to have an additional mainland China layover.
