About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

I would like to visit a factory in Guangdong province

I would purchase a round trip ticket from Danang, Vietnam to Baiyun Airport in Guangzhou. Traveling on a New Zealand passport. It appears from the information above that I would qualify for a visa-free stay of up to 144 hours in Guangdong. Am I correct?
Thank you

Thank you for your helpful reply.
I assume I could also do the reverse - take a train or ferry from Hong Kong to Guangzhou, and continue after a transit of up to 144 hours by air from Guangzhou to Danang?

How do I determine if my train or ferry are eligible for the visa free transit option?

Reverse is not possible. The 144 hour transit requires you to arrive in Guangdong province by plane

Unfortunately, not. You are not allowed to do that because this is not a transit, but a visit to China.

Of course, you can use some creativity and become eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Guangdong province, but in that case you should take a multi-city ticket:

Da Nang - Guangzhou
Hong Kong - Da Nang

Between Guangdong province and Hong Kong you can take a train from Guangzhou or a ferry from Shenzhen. A ticket for either train or ferry have to be booked in advance and you need a confirmation in your hand at the time of check-in in Da Nang. You should take care to take a train and a ferry that are eligible for this visa free transit option.

Eligible and available transport options between Guangzhou & Shenzhen and Hong Kong:

By train, you have to use Guangzhou–Kowloon through train departing from Guangzhou East railway station and arriving at Hung Hom railway station in Hong Kong for a bit less than two hours. This is by far my favorite option because it goes from a center of one to the center of another city. The only drawback is the fact that you will have to decide, before your travel, where this ticket will be delivered to you, i.e. in which hotel. You can book a ticket for this train on this website and you will receive an e-confirmation that you will use as a proof of your real intention that you will really travel by using 144 TWOV in Guangdong province.
- By ferry, a bit more complicated, but used by people who plan to visit Shenzhen beside Guangzhou. So, you can take a ferry from Shenzhen Shekou port to Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal. The procedure of booking is through CKS - Chu Kong Passenger Transport website and you will receive an e-confirmation. This e-confirmation is the same as for the train. You will print it out and use as a proof for your 144 TWOV. You will get a real ticket at Shekou ferry port for your travel to Hong Kong.
