About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Are we eligible for the 144 hr transit permits ? Two UK born citizens travelling to Tokyo andBeijing

Travelling UK to Beijing and same day onward flight (staying in airport) to Tokyo . Staying in Tokyo for 5 nights then fly back to Beijing for 4 nights and home to UK. Ie staying less than 100 hrs ? Any recommendations

Thank you , but do we really need a visa free permit for 24 hrs if we are only staying in the airport for approx 5 hrs waiting for a connecting flight ?

Two different things involved. One is 24 hour visa free transit. This is not optional this will be handled when you check in for the flight to confirm eligibility. You can then go through the transit security and stay airside upon arrival. The other is entry permit to go outside of the international transit area which has to be applied for upon landing. If you plan on staying inside the international transit area then you don't need to worry about that.

In case that you have mentioned all your stops within your itinerary, you can enjoy visa free transit twice.

The first time, you will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit in Beijing because your transit time in China is less than 24 hours.

The second time, you will enjoy 144 hour visa free transit in Beijing and the surrounding areas.
